A Trustworthy Saying David A Staff

Each successive generation of the human race seems destined to live with less certainty about life's most important matters. Who are we as human beings? Where can real joy be found? Year after year, more of what was thought certain is sacrificed to the god of endless speculation. But each generation of Jesus' disciples has a calling to recognize and embrace the deposit of truth entrusted to them. Theirs is the privilege, because of the purpose and grace of God, of living with a reliable compass. Faithfully followed, it guides toward the unimaginable experience of joyful glory promised in the ages to come (cf. 2 Timothy 2:10). These truths are captured in a refreshing, helpful "trustworthy saying" offered by the Apostle Paul. There is an important, reliable, trustworthy truth about our walk with God in each line. All four statements together offer a dependable if not critical compass for every disciple of the Lord Jesus.
