Jesus said, "Whoever would be first among you must be slave (douloV) of all" (Mark 10:44). On balance, our Savior and His Word teach that "to serve" involves the humility of habitually giving-of-oneself. At the direction of God's Word, with the empowerment of God's Spirit, encountering divinely-arranged opportunities - serving means purposefully, sacrificially meeting the true needs of others. To be a conduit of God's love both in word and in deed. God's purposes are achieved through those who believe in Christ Jesus as Savior and follow in serving Christ Jesus as Lord. The devotional reader invites you to observe and learn from Jesus of Nazareth's life of service, portrayed in Mark's gospel. Like those who walked with Jesus around Galilee, Samaria, and Judea, we too are his disciples. We need to think well about the lessons he taught and the servant/slave training he offered.
