Richard Wagner: Gotterdammerung Der Ring Des Nibelungen <limited> Sir Georg Solti Japan Import edition

The Hungarian-British conductor Georg Solti was awarded membership of the Order of the British Empire during his tenure in London: in 1968 as Commander, and in 1971 as Knight Commander, with the addition of the title “Sir”. Solti was the most-awarded artist of any genre, with 31 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Trustees Award, and 74 nominations. He was nominated another 74 times. Sir Georg Solti's extensive experience as an opera conductor made possible the first complete studio recording (1958 to 1965) of Richard Wagner's “Der Ring des Nibelungen” with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which is still considered a great moment in recording history. To mark the 110th anniversary of his birth and the 25th anniversary of his death, a completely new edition of this recording will be released in 2022 and 2023.

Recorded in May and October 1965 with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Zofiensaal in Vienna, the original tapes, some of which were in very poor condition, were extensively restored under the direction of Andrew Wedman (formerly of Emil Berliner Studios) and remastered by Decca engineer Philip Sidney at a high resolution of 192 kHz/24 bits. Sophisticated tools such as iZotope RX-9 and CEDAR Retouch are used to remove tape hiss and other noise, and these are far more effective and less invasive than earlier programs. This brings out the brilliant overtones of the brass and strings of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra like never before. The new release of Wagner’s “Götterdämmerung” on four hybrid SACDs presents the fourth and last part of the “Nibelungen” tetralogy in an impressive sound quality – a clear recommendation for friends of Wagner's masterpiece!
