Asia | Indigo
After a 12-year album hiatus, the legendary British prog rock band Asia returns with Indigo, their 14th studio album and first release of new studio material since 2014's Gravitas.
With original member Geoff Downes on keyboards at the helm, Asia's current lineup consists of guitarist John Mitchell, drummer Virgil Donati, and bassist and lead vocalist Harry Whitley. Together, they carry on the band's musical legacy with an album that unites the classic Asia sound with renewed energy, intricate arrangements, and modern production.
The album Indigo has a special connection to the band's history. The first ideas for the album arose back in 2015, when Geoff Downes began writing new material together with the original lead singer John Wetton. The work was, however, interrupted by Wetton's illness and subsequent death in 2017. Now, some of his final compositions are finally coming to life on the album in the form of "Tattoo Indigo (Parts 2 & 3)" and "Chesapeake Bay". The latter also features a guest appearance from original Asia member and Yes guitarist Steve Howe.
The album was recorded during 2025 and produced by Geoff Downes and the rest of the band, while John Mitchell has handled the mix and mastering. With Indigo, Asia builds a bridge between the past and the present and simultaneously honors the legacy of John Wetton, while the band shows that their characteristic melodic prog rock still has plenty to offer.
