Maj. Ezra Hayes is deployed to an austere desert outpost in the Middle East during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a dream, a dark stranger warns him not to receive the vaccines being offered to the troops. The major begins to suspect that the vaccines might harm his health or even kill him. Despite pressure from his command, he declines vaccination.

When vaccination is made mandatory, he is unsure what to do. He feels the walls closing in.

At night in his bunk, his dreams become increasingly lucid while his daytime reality grows more surreal. He wonders if he is losing his mind.

In his dreams, the dark stranger returns.

In the night, in his dreams, he finds freedom and escapes.
