This hypothesis deals with a special group, newborns and infants. What makes them so special is that they are in the developmental stage. The disorder, autism, is believed to be caused by organically based central nervous system dysfunction especially in the ability to process social or emotional information or language. For some time it has been believed that the mechanism of this condition is probably an inherent constitutional defect. It is instead the result of injury to the brain caused by bursts of high-intensity light.
