Jennifer and Monty are competing at the Tucson dog shows for Monty's Utility Dog title in obedience. Meanwhile, her brother-in-law has been elected to Congress and he demands access to her Tucson house to entertain his 'important backers.' She allows them to meet and realizes that they aren't very savory characters. At the show she learns that the obedience judge has died in a fire, and as events unfold she and Alex realize that the judge's death and her brother-in-law's important project are connected. Crooked politics and a major brush fire combine in a sizzling climax.
