As mankind plunges into the technological morass of the 21st century, he ignores the fundamental human issues brought to a head by the technology of the 20th century - by the atomic bombs and the electronic revolution which in fact had already united the globe by the mid-20th. He will not be able to ignore these 20th century issues indefinitely, through the diversions provided by the incessant technological innovations of the 21st. Sooner or later "nature will come roaring back". Although at present he may be headed into type of Brave-New-World, oriental despotism mediated by a scientific priesthood through computer algorithms and the ubiquitous electronic stimulation of the masses, this pattern may or may not hold. It is Stone's contention that it should not completely hold, because it too severely perverts the human being in his fundamental essence as an autonomous character who both bonds and fights on the mental and physical planes. Perhaps Stone's book contributes towards a future human revolution that has yet to fully unfold. Clearly it is open to be shaped.
