As artists, we must tell the stories of our social unrest. We must write, dance, and paint the stories of our people. So that our history is not forgotten. So that our legacies are not lost. So that we can be in charge of our identities. Our children need to know our stories, our songs, our battles, our victories. We must remember where we have come from and decide where we will go. People need to see the un-beautiful moments. People need to know what is required for ferocity, for resilience. They need to see if it is possible to hold onto hope through the long, dark sadness. Night of Fires is a collection of writings that deeply reflect on our current emotional and social turmoil.
