Samuel Koomson, a native of Ghana, West Africa, has resided in the United States for the past fifteen years. He left Ghana in search of greater fortune which has eluded him. Realizing this, he brought his children from Ghana to come live with him in the United States and had great expectations of them but things did not go as planned. His eldest son, Kwame, is coming to terms with his own choices. His daughter, Abigail, falls to her passions. Now his son, Thomas, a senior in high school is misguided which Samuel desperately tries to get him to see. As the story unfolds, different perspectives are told, including from Samuel's wife, Joyce, who also has a nine-year-old son with Samuel called Godfred.
