The adventure is set in 1985-87 in the Thatcher Gorbachev era and describes the defection attempt of a young Lithuanian basketball virtuoso. Dr Calum Blair, an academic from Glasgow, travels to Kaunas (USSR) on business. Whilst there he meets family relations for the first time who persuade him to arrange an exhibition basketball match in Glasgow to facilitate the defection of Jonas Baltas, his late wife's second cousin. The reader joins Jonas in his efforts to reach America. The young Lithuanian finds himself in such places as the Scottish Highlands, the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Canada. Will Jonas realise his dream and becomes a star in the NBA?
