In a small southern Louisiana town, a lonely young girl named Mary Alice discovers a new world on the other side of a creek that runs along the border of her property. She crosses a bridge each day to spend time with a lovely woman who shows the young girl kindness, the likes of which she has never known. Their adventures together seem to fill a void in each of their lives. Mary Alice lives with parents who ignore her because they are lost in alcohol and drug addiction, and the woman longs to have a child of her own. Mary Alice discovers the true meaning of love and friendship which gets her through a sad and lonely childhood. This is a story of hope.
