Five couples from different walks of life who, like most, have no time for considering their own mortality, are forced to confront the reality of a terminal diagnosis. Thrust into a parallel existence as they pass through a Midwestern University Hospital, they are caught in a dialogue of anger, frustration and desperation that has no object except Nature herself. Struggling on the same plane as his patients, their doctor is locked in a battle with an unrelenting force that has few rules; yet many precarious demons that he can fully vanquish. A story of hope, and sometimes bitter disappointment, Mutual Arisings plays through each character as their views of life, sex and love, so deeply tied to assumptions, are all transformed. It acknowledges that life is a giant gamble, and all the while we live best by denying our inevitable fate. However, the day comes early for some who must face into the wager.
