Step Into Journalism
Idahosa E Asowata
The Author, Mr. Idahosa Asowata was one of the very brilliant trainee -journalists at the Times Journalism Institute (TJI), Lagos where I was the Deputy Director in 1980-86. I remember, as if it were yesterday, Mr. Asowata's top rate performances in General Reporting, Specialised Reporting and Current Affairs which I handled. That he has decided to write a book on REPORTING is a very wise decision on his part. First, he has the experience - reportorially garnered for almost two decades from one of Africa's biggest newspapers conglomerate - The DAILY TIMES of Nigeria. Mr. Idahosa has always had the zeal for EXCLUSIVE reports which made him his editor's hope for front page lead stories when news was scarce. I recommend this book to budding journalists especially cub-reporters. I equally recommend it to Journalism Institutions. This book fills a lacuna in the theory and practice of Reportorial Journalism because there had been a vacuum. Any journalist who lays hand on this book will find it difficult to put down until he has read it from page to page. I am proud of Mr. Idahosa Asowata and this debut publication of his. Obviously, if he hadn't passed through my hands as a trainee - journalist in 1981-2, he wouldn't have been a journalist today. And this book wouldn't have been written for you to read.
