Just how long can a vampire live unchecked? Jean Demain-turned to a vampire in the early nineteenth century-is cursed while raiding an Egyptian tomb. After life as a libertine he goes into hiding in Toulouse, France. He returns to fight a civil war between the young and old vampires, to aid humanity against conquering vampire-aliens, and for himself, to exercise strength and individuality. The novel is made up of four parts. They show Demain at various stages in time, living through the internal wars of the past, the vampire- alien wars of the present, the war for shelter in the future, and a final search for peace. Jean Demain manages to live for thousands years.
The book is about individuality and remaining strong through life's epic journey. Throughout the novel Jean Demain turns from one group to the next, all willing to induct him into their group. Yet throughout his thousands of years, he remains a loner and a passionate liver of life.
A fiction work written over the span of two and a half years, Vampires Live Forever is a vampire epic in the realm of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. It spans the nostalgic past to visions of the future and beyond. It is a flight of dream and fancy. At times just raw imagination, at others a gauge of the future. It is a homage to vampire stories of old and a new treatment of vampires beyond horror and Gothic. It binds the genres of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and Gothic.
