'The Thing that Followed' is a short story in the Dark's Anthology Multi-Verse. The story follows Meredith Gosforth, a normal eighties teenager caught up in the world of movies, boys, big hair, makeup, and concerts. Her and her friends, Clarissa Hall and Megan Revardi find that one afternoon after returning from a shopping trip to the mall, they suffer car trouble in the middle of rural nowhere. The girls try to find help by heading through the forest but quickly discover that someone is following them. This leads to an horrific sequence of events that ends with the brutal murder of one girl and the stalking of the others by something that would reveal itself to be unnatural. Meredith's only hope of escaping the deranged murderer is to find help in Aston Hall Manor, situated deep within Fairbank Forest. However, all is not what it seems and to survive she must come to terms with her past and a monster which is determined to eat her face.
