There is a shortage of potable water in spite of the presence of large natural sources of brackish water. Brackish water (BW) desalination is the most important way to relieve the shortage of fresh water. Reverse osmosis (RO) technology has been recognized for more than four decades as a primary BW desalination method. Improvements in membrane materials and high energy saving through energy recovery devices (ERDs) have made RO technology more attractive and economically competitive than other desalination technologies. According to these developments this project focuses mainly on optimization study for prediction the minimum unit product cost of Alwaha oilfield Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) desalination plant. Two different tools were used to reach the goal, the first one is Reverse Osmosis System Analysis (ROSA 9.1) software which was used to simulate the performance and energy estimation of Alwaha BWRO system and the second one is WRF-08-14 excel sheet was used to evaluate and optimize various energy recovery devices.
