Elementary Fluid Mechanics: a First Course
Alfred W. Manyonge
The study of fluid mechanics finds use in a wide variety of applications. The study of fluid mechanics is important to both engineers and scientists. For example, the flow of fluids in pipes, ducts and channels is important to civil engineers while the study of fluid machinery such as pumps is vital to mechanical engineers. The flow of air around objects is essential in aerodynamics. Geothermal fluid flow in porous media, petroleum production in oil bearing rocks, fluid flow in food and processing industries, blood flow in bodies of animals, wind motion in wind energy conversion systems, motion of electrically conducting fluids give rise to currents which are used in the design of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) generators and pumps and other myriad applications that all use the princples of fluid mechanics.
