In Telecommunication system, network devices process huge amount of data supplied by the network operators. Devices to obtain approved data which adheres to certain predefined restrictions to avoid failures during later stages is critical. Hence, the data sent by the N/W operator has to be validated against large number of constraints before it is processed by the N/W devices. Even though operators are aware of these constraints, but the inherent ambiguity associated with the natural language specification of constraint makes it difficult to send the correct data. Object Constraint Language (OCL) can play a vital role in specifying these constraints in an unambiguous manner. Ericsson, a Telecommunication giant aims to use OCL not only for constraint specification but also for automation of code generation from the OCL constraints. We have investigated the use of OCL in Ericsson?s N/W models and the feasibility of code generation from these constraints. Our study recommends use of OCL for constraint specification and automation of constraint code generation for Ericsson system. Utilization of OCL on the network nodes can be a step forward for Ericsson towards Model Driven Development.
