Les Originaux ou l'Italien is a late example of Commedia dell'arte style. This first edition of this play since 1754 brings to the readership a text that so far has been available only in antique editions or part of the slatkine edition of houdar de La Motte's complete works (repr. of the 1754 8-volume Prault edition). It reproduces exactly the spelling and punctuation of older editions.
