Organic farming is gaining gradual momentum across the world. Growing awareness of health and environmental issues in agriculture has demanded production of organic food which is emerging as an attractive source of rural income generation. While trends of rising consumer demand for organics are becoming discernible, sustainability in production of crops has become the prime concern in agriculture development. Due to high yielding varieties, and indiscriminate use of chemical inputs and mechanization, agriculture today faces severe problem of soil qualities such as erosion, depletion of soil organic matter and persistence of residues of pesticides and heavy metals.
