Spiritually Sensitive Psychological Counseling
James Bradford Benziger
Benziger disagrees with paleontologist Stephen Gould that the spiritual worldview and the scientific are non-overlapping. His book explores the history of the two worldviews from pre-history and evolutionary psychology, to the break between Socrates and Aristotle, to recent reconciliations in the two views that have occurred since the 1990s. It marks ways in which the views overlap and sometimes contradict each other. It discusses a process for combining science and soul in individual, group, and family psychotherapy, which can be used whatever the beliefs, or lack thereof, of the client.
