This report is an overview of recidivism, a revolving door that haunts the nation. Here a terse account of some of the possible causes as well as methods and techniques of attempting to reduce recidivism; raise the community consciousness and self-esteem of ex-offender; and save funds for agencies that could be further used for prevention, and higher education within communities at-risk. Research has shown that racial disparity is obvious, especially with the high rate of African-American males returning to the prison industrial complex. The author , who has interviewed and notated a small sampling of ex-offenders in the Southampton, Brunswick, and Pittsylvania Counties, and the Tidewater area in Virginia, outlines a few useful recommendations in hope of reducing recidivism for new understanding.
