Trafficking in humans is a serious and complex international problem; it is third by dimension criminal business after the drugs and arms trade, and one of the increasing forms of organized crime on global level, which is present in the countries with bad economic conditions, even in the developed countries. The countries of South Eastern Europe, which have been in period of transition for many years, are especially affected by this problem. Most of them are countries of origin, transit and destination of the victims of trafficking because of the necessity of sexual exploitation, forced labour or service in various sectors. One of these serious problems is the trafficking in humans. Declaring herself as a country of transit and destination, in Macedonia the possibility of appearance of other problems in the field of trafficking in humans has been neglected i.e. the problem of internal trafficking in women and children, its connection to the transnational trafficking as well as the trafficking in humans with other social problems such as: prostitution, illegal work, begging, homelessness.
