The book deals with dynamic health monitoring of micro turning process using a combination of methodologies which ensures accuracy of the process, prevention of tool breakage during machining and enhancement of surface integrity of machined profile. In order to achieve the desired objective, a pattern recognition based algorithm has been developed which effectively finds the machine stiffness and material constants dynamically. Subsequently, photoelastic methodology has been implemented to evaluate the shear stress generated on the tool face. Fiber Bragg grating sensor was used to dynamically assess the temperature induced at the tool tip of the micro turning tool during machining and the surface roughness of machined surface was related with the temperature induced at the tool tip during machining. It was concluded that the combination of these methodologies can effectively eradicate the existing problems, challenges and limitations persistent in micro turning process.
