This book is perhaps the first anthropological attempt to investigate on the issues of indigenous medical system of malaria in Ethiopia. Indigenous medicine is the sum total of a person's or group's health related knowledge, beliefs, norms, values, rituals and symbols. The book essentially assesses and compares the society's health care options such as home remedies, traditional medicine and modern health care services. Furthermore, the book widely demonstrates that those of cultural construction of illness, traditional healing systems and the various socio-cultural factors were basic determinants to shape and moderate the society to perceive malaria causation, prevention, treatment and control.
