This a true story of four people who were close to Queen Elizabeth 1 and were also related to each other by marriage. Firstly Lord Leicester, the man most likely to have married the Queen and her favourite; a dashing, handsome and charismatic person. Secondly his wife Lettice Knollys, the most beautiful lady in the court according to many, a former lady of the bedchamber to the Queen but banned from court for ever because of the Queen's jealousy when she married Leicester. Thirdly her son and Leicester's stepson, the fiery, dangerously attractive young favourite Lord Essex who replaced his step father in the Queen's affections.
