The 1st Infantry Regiment Volunteers was organized May 9, 1861 at Nashville, Tennessee. The companies of the 1st were recruited in Nashville and the counties of Davidson, Nashville, Williamson, Hardin, Maury, Giles, and Rutherford. The 27th Infantry Regiment [also called 25th Regiment] was assembled at Camp Trenton, Tennessee, in September, 1861. Its 833 men were from the counties of Benton, McNairy, Obion, Henderson, Decatur, Crockett, Weakley, and Carroll. During December, 1862 these two regiments were consolidated and continued throughout the war fighting with the Army of Tennessee. They surrendered in North Carolina. Companies Of The 1st / 27th Cons.
