It's the middle of the night when the call comes in. Rookie Sheriff Zack Taylor is not ready, not for a crime of this magnitude. A mother and father are dead - murdered in their bedroom at their remote farmhouse. Their little girl, however, escapes but is too traumatized to talk.

As Zack struggles to identify a suspect or uncover a motive, the Feds get involved. The victims were African-American, a swastika painted with their blood on the bedroom wall. Feeling unqualified and overwhelmed, he questions why he ever took the job.

Shortly after Special Agent Tina Simpson arrives in town, she finds herself in a shootout with two masked killers. Their objective? To kidnap the little girl and finish the job. Agent Simpson takes a shotgun blast to the leg but manages to shoot one of the killers before they escape with the girl.

When the wounded suspect turns up dead, Zack finally has a lead that helps him identify the killers. However, he has no idea that when the evidence finally uncovers the motive, his worst nightmare is about to come true.

Zack is tested to his limits as he battles ghosts from his past and attempts to save a child from an unimaginable fate before it is too late.
