According to the Byrds, there is "a time to be born, a time to die." Death does not have a pause button. Death is something that we all experience, and we will all lose someone that we love. As adults, we are not exempt from the pain of losing someone, but we understand that this is a part of life. When a child loses someone, the pain is there, but the understanding is often lost in a whirlwind of confusion. Written for children or anyone who have lost someone special, Shine On is a picture coloring book that follows a poem of remembrance. Many children experience sudden loss, and I hope that my book will help them understand their emotions and help them cherish the experiences they had with their loved one, even the ones they did not know. Children that were unable to experience the love of their relatives gone before them may also experience a feeling of loss in their lives. As a teacher, I feel that the power of language is not a lost cause when it comes to human emotion. Just like a hug, words can provide comfort. I hope that this book has a "season" and will find its way into the hearts of many who have lost someone that they love unconditionally.
