'Being Jesus Now' is an account of the historical Jesus reincarnated continually since his death on the cross. Yet rather than returning as the biblical Christ, he lives life anonymously in the periods he is born, which in this final story of the Being Jesus Trilogy is as a paramedic living in the present day, with Jesus providing his thoughts and opinions on the current state of the world while working alongside his paramedic partner whose views on life are quite different. The story begins with Jesus describing his current situation as well as introducing his paramedic partner, a man who is cynical, selfish and totally convinced that civilization as we know it is doomed. Only the reader knows the identity of Jesus as the duo is sent to heart attacks, suicides, and other tragic situations. While between calls the two converse on a wide range of topics such as religion, nuclear proliferation, global warming and economic inequality. Yet while the two clearly have different views on whether humanity will be able to resolve its problems and go on to have a better future, there is clearly a great deal of mutual respect between them as they both work diligently to treat the patients that they attend to. This is not a religious story, but rather a contemporary story told honestly, and one that includes homophobia, drug use, and suicide as a backdrop to discussions about intolerance, inequality and humanity's proclivity toward violence. However, there is also a prevailing attitude that progress is being made, and that all will be well with humanity as long as we have faith in ourselves.
