---- This Russian translation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Yury Nesterenko is published with the classic illustrations by John Tenniel. From the translator's Foreword: "...all Russian translations of 'Alice' which I encountered are rather far from the original. Boris Zakhoder was the most honest since he directly called his version 'a paraphrase'. Other translators who did not make such a statement generally took undue freedoms with the Carroll's text. I will not claim that their translations are no good. On the contrary, Zakhoder's version, for example, is written in a more vivid style than the original-but there is one little problem: Lewis Carroll did not write it. So, my purpose was to make a translation as accurate as possible-certainly, as far as the language differences between English and Russian allow." Yury Nesterenko (b. 1972) lives in Florida, and writes poetry and science fiction.
