Breaking out of the Smithsonian is no easy feat. When Cjiena is imprisoned and put on display at one of the largest museums in the world, she and others of her kind, who are also held captive, make plans to escape. But when the time comes for their chance at freedom, the museum guards gun down her cellmates. Cijena enlists the help of Zachariah, a human, and is able to make her escape. Unable to hide the wings which mark her, she is forced to take up hiding in Zachariah's apartment while her face is plastered all over the news stations as one of the nation's most wanted. Angered by being labeled a murderer, Cjiena does the only thing she knows best, and that is to tell her story.
