When Sylvia Brand reports for work on Monday morning, she discovers her lascivious, sexist manager has been abruptly transferred, and Sun Motors has replaced him with a genderless robot. At first, Sylvia and her co-workers are overjoyed to discover that Carin, the robot, is very nearly the perfect boss: unfailingly polite, eager to help solve problems, and dedicated to making the office a better team. As the days pass, Sylvia readily agrees to an increasingly invasive series of company policies - after all, she reasons, Sun Motors is a good place to work. But little by little, Sylvia is pulled into a totalitarian nightmare. After being sent to a secret facility to serve as a captive source of medical data, she embarks on a life-or-death journey to freedom to save both herself and her unborn child.
