Harold Maclutz left Earth in a hurry after creditors served papers on him. He had pledged his ship as collateral to pay the promissory note held by the Intergalactic Guaranty Company, and now they wanted the ship. Harold exulted in his escape, but his buoyant spirits lasted only as long as he remained in hyperspace, for when the ship exited warp he found himself completely across the galaxy in rim country over thirty thousand light years from where he wanted to be.
