This little book was first published in 1980, and it has been out of print for many years. Yet it deserves much wider circulation, because it contains foundational context essays about St. John Baptist de La Salle. All were written by preeminent Lasallian scholars of the time. The first section centers around De La Salle's roots in the town of Reims. The second section provides an excellent overview of what France looked like in the time of the Founder. The third section is a chronology of the major events in his life, with interesting tidbits of information here and there, like a fast-forward film of highlights.
