Pat-a-Pan is a very rustic Christmas piece that is set in a round beginning with the highest voice and pyramiding down. The percussive ""drone"" parts add a distinct color to this piece and this sort of writing works well with various combinations of woodwind instruments. Even the lowest part gets to shine with an unaccompanied pass through the melody.
