In an obscure Jewish cemetery, Minneapolis Homicide Sergeant Harding Knox becomes embroiled in a murder investigation of a state court judge. Hours later, a gruesome double homicide of two Native Americans is reported in a wooded park near the Mississippi River. Both events lead Knox on an unpredictable journey from Minneapolis to Mackinac Island, Michigan, a confrontation with a dubious private detective, and to a woman of mystery.
