The Kentucky 11th Cavalry Regiment was organized in Madison County, Kentucky, with 410 officers and men. It skirmished in Kentucky and Tennessee, then rode with J. H. Morgan into Indiana and Ohio. Most of the men were captured at Buffington Island on July 19 and some at New Lisbon on July 26, 1863. The unit was not reorganized. Some of the men served later under Gen. Basil Duke and are reported to have been a part of President Davis' escort at the end of the war.
