Saint David, as we know it today, was the first of the communities represented on a modern-day map of Cochise County, Arizona. In late 1877, most people saw a country to be bypassed - or driven through in haste. But a little group of mormon farming families saw home; a beautiful remote setting along the San Pedro River for the community of their dreams. Stories from the decades that followed take some unexpected turns. There was agriculture, of course, and also happenings involving the U. S. Cavalry, railroads, mines, twenty-mule freight teams, mastodons, a giant dynamite plant, a wonderful cavern - and even home-made ice cream.
