Sergeant Lucas is in town to help with a murder; but he is also there to forget about his own recent past. And what had seemed a simple job of finding the bad guys and doing good, quickly becomes a much deeper investigation. From the certainties of the past he is hurled into a strange town. A dinosaur is only the most bizarre character he meets, but a killer Doberman, a sexy police-chief, three beautiful women and a terrifying harridan make sure that he can never relax. A castle taunts him; it promises a place of refuge, of safety, of comfort, while he tries to find the way in. And all the time, the world is hurtling towards a pointless war which no-one seems able to prevent. What Lucas finally manages is an act more robust, more defensible, than all those of the crazy world around him. He sets out to build, not a castle with stone walls, but a castle of life.
