Drift Foothills Students

This is the second edition of Drift, an eight-month journey which began with a question: What do you think about when you can't sleep at night? My eleventh grade students wrote their thoughts on slips of paper then gave them to me. Curiously, these were also questions, the same which make up the chapters in this book. We decided to try and answer them indirectly through poems, stories or short narratives using other famous works as inspiration. Each week we took on a few. The students wrote, revised, edited and formatted this book. "Trembling Starlight" consists of the answers by my first period class and "Absolute Magnitude" by the second. Maybe they aren't answers, but the questions live behind all this work. The voices within these pages show the heart, conflict and striving of a group of excellent young women and men as they begin their journeys in life. We hope you enjoy it.
