A dead author discovers seven years after his messy funeral that he is a best-selling sensational success back on earth. He had died in obscurity, a miserable, frustrated failure, and was lifted up to heaven prema-turely due to a bureaucratic snafu. On this basis he requests another sojourn on earth in order to do 'good works' and also recover a long lost manuscript that he regards as his masterpiece. In reality, this is a a lie, he seeks vengeance on the the editors, agents, and family members who did him wrong on his first go-around. Doak Lassiter is warned that if he behaves badly he may not be readmitted through the pearly gates.
