I have to confess that it is always with a certain amount of trepidation that I begin to read a poetry manuscript because poetry is a much abused genre and the vast majority of people who think they can write poetry simply can?t! Thus, it was with great pleasure and some relief that I began to read this collection and as I got deeper and deeper into the collection it became increasingly apparent that here we have a poet of rare ability. This is a wonderfully assembled and evocatively written set of poems which display not only a high degree of natural ability but also great familiarity of poetic techniques. This is a potent mix which the author uses to great effect. It is most certainly necessary to have such qualities since it presents itself in what is a very competitive genre. ?
