The sixties were rough on Perry Selring. A bad marriage, crippling alcoholism, LSD, anti-war demonstrations, and three years of brutal street work have all taken their toll. Lt. Perry Selring is burnt out. But now it's 1970, and it's time to grow up. If only he could. THE HATE takes place in San Francisco during the summer of 1970. The anti-war moratorium is at its zenith, free love is waning, drug experimentation has become drug abuse, and somebody is killing flower girls. Not just killing them, but sadistically, ritually, sacrificing them. Lt. Perry Selring, one of the few "longhairs" on the department, is assigned the case. It only makes sense: his undercover work with the Chimereans (members of a vicious commune that believe violence purges sin) makes him the most likely candidate. But the other cops on Perry's department hate him, they think he's responsible for the shooting death of four of their fellow officers. And they think he represents the counterculture they loathe. The result, a mandate: pin the murders on the psychotic leader of a local commune. And die trying. Perry agrees, he's ready to end it all. But he never counted on falling in love.
