I dreamed of creating a perfect family, unlike the one I grew up in-two beautiful children, white picket fence, loving husband, etc. After only a few months into my marriage, the dream dimmed, then shattered at the birth of my baby girl. Only those who have a mentally challenged child can fully understand the depth of heartache and despair that comes upon you when your child is diagnosed with mental retardation.
