To Take Shelter is the story of Anna, married at nineteen, who undergoes a period of escalating emotional and physical violence at the hands of her husband, Josh. The story follows Anna and her child, and their journey to a safe shelter for women victims of domestic violence, their time in the shelter, and the various women Anna meets therein who share their experiences with her. A cold-blooded murder weighs heavily into a decision she will make regarding her future and her need to be a strong advocate for programs of domestic violence prevention and intervention.
