From completely different walks of life, three young men meet at Marine Corps boot camp, where they form a powerful bond of friendship on their journey to manhood. Vanguard Womack, known as "Van" to his friends, is a naïve country boy from South Dakota, driven to avenge his brother's death in the attacks on 9/11. Jerome Jackson, or "Jo" from the tough streets of Philly, is trying to escape the decadent gangbanging lifestyle of the hood and fulfill the demands of his newly acquired sense of patriotism. And the affluent yet scamming college kid, Alex Finestine, lands himself in a jam and enlists solely to avoid the threat of jail time for a past indiscretion. Their intentions and backgrounds couldn't be more different, yet, while trying to survive boot camp, they form an unusual bond and become best friends. The strength of their bond will come under scrutiny and be severely tested when the trio is sent overseas and left to the uncertainties of combat.
