boygenius is an American indie rock supergroup consisting of the three prominent and successful solo artists Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus. The group was originally formed in 2018 in an informal and close community driven by deep mutual respect and friendship. As the three musicians were constantly compared and pitted against each other in the press at the start of their careers, they chose instead to join forces to challenge the industry's tendency to create unnecessary competition between female artists. The ironic band name thus directly refers to the societal archetype of the overvalued, young male genius.

Their shared musical universe beautifully fuses Julien Baker's raw, guitar-driven energy, Lucy Dacus' rich, intimate storytelling, and Phoebe Bridgers' atmospheric melancholy. The music is particularly characterized by the three artists' tight, three-part vocal harmonies and rawly honest, emotional lyrics. After achieving cult status with a self-titled debut EP in 2018, the group had its major global breakthrough in 2023 with the long-awaited full-length album 'the record'. The album became a massive critical and commercial success, topping the charts and subsequently earning the trio three major Grammy Awards, which has truly cemented them as one of the most defining names in modern independent rock music.
